There are stories that stay with you long after you put your camera down.
This photoshoot was one of those — a quiet morning in Rome that spoke about courage, tenderness, and the universal desire to simply be yourself next to the person you love.
The couple came from Seoul, South Korea — two young women whose love story has had to exist mostly in the shadows. In their country, showing affection in public or talking openly about their relationship is still difficult. Their families don’t approve of their bond, and most of their friends and colleagues know them only as “friends.”
So, from time to time, they escape. They travel far from home to live, for a few days, the kind of freedom that should belong to everyone.
When they reached out to me about a LGBTQ couple photoshoot in Rome, I immediately felt that this wasn’t going to be just about taking pictures. It was about giving them a space to breathe, to express what they can’t always say with words — and to celebrate a love that has had to fight quietly to exist.

We met early in the morning at the Borghese Gallery and Gardens, one of the most romantic corners of Rome. The light was soft, the city still waking up. They arrived hand in hand, but with a certain shyness — unsure of what to expect, unsure maybe of how much of themselves they could show.
At the beginning, there was a sweet awkwardness. They laughed nervously, looked around often, as if to check that no one was watching. I tried to make things light — we started walking slowly, chatting, getting to know each other. I wanted them to feel that they could be completely themselves, that this was their moment, their space.
Bit by bit, the tension started to melt. I watched as their smiles became more genuine, their movements more natural. The way one of them brushed a hair from the other’s face, or how their fingers intertwined while they walked — those small gestures spoke more than any pose ever could.
For me, that’s the beauty of a couple photoshoot — especially when it comes to capturing love that has had to hide. The camera becomes a witness, not a judge. It’s a way to say, your story matters.
Same Sex Couple: Between Cultures, Between Worlds
As we wandered through the gardens, we talked a lot. About the differences between Italy and Korea, about how love is seen in each culture, about food and travel and the dream of someday being able to live freely.
They told me how in Rome they could finally walk together without fear, how liberating it felt to hold hands in public, even just for a few hours.
Listening to them made me reflect on how often we take certain freedoms for granted — the freedom to love openly, to kiss in the street, to share your life with whoever makes you happy. For them, this LGBTQ couple photoshoot in Rome was more than a session; it was a celebration of freedom, a fragment of a life they hope to live one day without borders or fear.
When Emotions Take Over
As the sun rose higher, the atmosphere became lighter, warmer. They started to laugh freely, to play, to whisper things only they could hear. At one point, they simply sat under a tree, leaned on each other, and closed their eyes. I didn’t ask them to pose — I just captured that quiet tenderness, that sense of peace that comes when you feel safe next to someone.
Those are the moments I love the most: when a couple forgets about the camera and just is. When you can see the real connection — not the picture-perfect kind, but the one made of little gestures, of vulnerability, of presence.
By the end of the session, it felt like we had all shared something precious. They told me they hadn’t expected to feel so comfortable, that for once, they could just be them. And that’s the best compliment I could receive as Rome LGBT photographer.
Love Deserves to Be Seen
As a LGBT Rome photographer it has become one of the parts of my work that I appreciate. Every story is unique, but they all share that same desire — to be seen, to be loved without judgment, to create memories that feel real.
As a photographer, my role is not only to take beautiful images, but to create a safe space — one where you can express your connection freely and feel celebrated for who you are.
Love, after all, is love. It doesn’t need labels or approval. It just needs to be lived.
